Donegal based fabric anarchist.
My brilliant Granny taught me to crochet when I was little. I started crocheting warm fuzzy things many years ago mainly for myself. Before long I had requests and commissions, and my own little shop to work and sell from. Yarn began to take over my home. I found my own style, based on colour and texture.
I love wool in all forms and so I also learned to knit, needle felt, wet felt and generally muck about with fibre. My creativity flows at a fast pace and I often add new designs as well as sometimes making bespoke items or taking on unusual commissions. I have been required on occasion to reassure people that I have not, in fact, hunted Muppets for their eyebrows to edge hats or bootees with. |
Looking for work I could do at home whilst being a mother to babies led me to the wonderful world of upcycling. I discovered Katwise* and her awesome sweatercoat tutorial which inspired me to start my own journey. It is a constant state of experimentation which is genuinely joyful at times. I find patchworking together scraps and oddments satisfying, and it is rewarding to know I am helping keep clothes out of landfill - the "fast fashion" industry is one of the most resource consuming and polluting on the planet. ***I must take the opportunity to thank Katwise (the undisputed Queen of Upcycled Sweatercoats and more) for her tutorials which have been inspiring and encouraging, while her generosity and spirit make me want to be a better person as well as a better seamstress. |

I have two small children and a Big Fella, who are tolerant of my need to hoard fabric, yarn, buttons, second hand clothes, sewing machinery, crochet hooks and miscellaneous gubbins.
I am pretty much the same person I was when I was 7. I like colours, using long words, the smell of Indian incense, tinkering with things, listening to ska and Captain Beefheart, sunshine, cats, eating marzipan, playing games, and making clothes. These days the recipients are actual people.
My character can be seen even as long ago as babyhood, when I showed a healthy irreverence and inability to take anything seriously.
